Code of Conduct

In the good spirit of being great humans, these are some things you should do to keep everyone feeling safe and having a good time:

  • Being in community can be as challenging as it is collaborative. Be kind to yourself and others. Speak your mind. Listen.
  • Converse and collaborate with others. Discussion boards are places for collaboration, but so are Twitter and other platforms used at the online Lab.
  • If you find yourself tired, overwhelmed, or just in need of quiet, don't hesitate to step away. If you're with someone who needs a break, respect that.
  • Before you bring someone into a discussion, Twitter conversation, or other dialogue, ask if they want to join.
  • Respect others’ digital space, identity, and words.
  • Respect your colleagues’ preferred names and pronouns. Matters of identity are vital to the work we do.
  • Be mindful about sharing any words or thoughts that others post in discussions or on the DPL blog sites. Ask permission before quoting or posting.

Harassment Policy (short version)

Digital Pedagogy Lab is dedicated to providing a harassment-free event experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any Lab venue, including blogs, discussions, workshops, informal conversations, Twitter and other online media. Lab participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of Digital Pedagogy Lab’s director.

Harassment Policy (long version)

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

  • “No” means no.
  • “Stop” means stop.
  • “Go away” means go away.
  • Profile pictures, humour, friendliness do not signal consent.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the Lab staff may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a faculty member or the staff immediately.

We expect participants to follow these rules within all online event venues and at any Lab-related social events. And we reserve the right to ask you to leave the Lab or events if you are acting outside the code of conduct.
